29 A little rocky across the North Pacific May 4th

Got the sea bands on and STILL checking the navigation

North Pacific Crossing

I was up in the early hours of the morning extremely uncomfortable - a headache and  feeling that I wanted to be sick. Pulled up a bed on the sofa in the sitting room - took a couple of headache tablets and didn't know if should blame the weather or the alcohol.

Stick to the ginger ale and water - that was the goal

Just in case, I decided to declare today an alcohol free day. I had forgotten about "being kind to the liver" and after yesterday's efforts felt a moratorium was needed. Takes me by surprise how easy it is to chalk up the drinks when you get into a little relaxation rhythm and the segments of the day become punctuated by a special drink. Think a lunch something (usually trying something new and a little exotic), afternoon champers, a pre dinner cocktail, three courses possible so perhaps three wines l, followed by a coffee laced with something and a baileys for a nightcap. All consumed a little too easy really.

Balcony doors opened on both sides - lots of decks to maintain - none as big as ours

Anyway, the day must go on and pulled the curtains this morning and got to wave at the workers on the deck. It was 8 am, 2 degrees, misty and windy and nonethesless, the team of four was out there completing orogressive maintenance. Everything was wiped down. Areas were sprayed and the railing was oiled or varnished. They were certainly rugged up against the weather. This maintenance happens all over the ship no matter the day or the conditions.

By the time I had fiddle-faddled around and was ready to leave it was 9.11 ... which meant we missed the dining room cut off for breakfast and headed upstairs to #Horizons which is the buffet setting for all meal times.  It is expansive - plenty of choices - great attempts at food hygiene- but it is decidedly not my thing. I always try to avoid it ... until I don't .. and then I remind @Mac to never let me go there again. It is nothing to do with the setup or the offerings. It's just me. I don't like that in these peak times it is so NOISY and so  CROWDED. I think because I am "slow" and "casual" in my approach to the food, I don't move at the feeding frenzy pace of some ... and I tend to get jockeyed and jostled. Add to that, that I am lost amd  have trouble findling @Mac in the crowd or even identifying the table we are sitting at.  Thank goodness he had the red jacket on today - it was a beacon!

Anyway, found a breadroll, vegemite and some cheese and wrapped up the appetite for later in the day. @Mac settled for juice and fruit and we were ready for the lower decks.

Still haven't ventured to Deck 17 and the "free" exercise sessions although @Mac has been talking about the treadmill as a walking option because the decks are closed. Mind you, we'd only have to do a couple of laps of #Deck 15's corridors and we'd be back to the 10 000 step mark.

The morning commitment post breakfast was a session with Cruise Planner @Kym to learn tips and tricks to get the best out of a #Princess Cruise. #Fail. Thought we were going to get insights for managing the shower or navigating the APP. The reality - it was an ad for future cruises - a long list of possibilities.

Didn't do too well on activity choice today

Backed this up with our next #fail. I sure know how to pick them. This time it was "Whittier" with the destination expert @Debbie. Was really just an ad for the excursions that were on offer rather than any great history/geography/political/cultural insights that we have come to expect from the "Enrichment" programmes.

Had to get our educational and cultural fill by joining - but not participating in - a round of trivia and then hanging over the rails for a bit of the dance class.

There is a big contingent on board here who love the organised and hosted morning jump around and dance exercise class and then the ballroom instruction. Makes the whole multi floor level Piazza area across decks 4, 5 and 6 a bit of a collision hazard. But we get a good laugh out here wolith a coffee, just watching the world bounce around in front of us. We are not the only "lookers" - very often hard to get a seat in these spaces.

Our morning #Horizons stumble was quickly forgotten, because we were able to get back to the civilised #Concerto for lunch and then a later dinner.

Good seats for the late show and do appreciate the all male numbers

The evening entertainment was the production team presenting a high energy song and dance show "Colours of the World." They ran three shows tonight- so we were rewarded at the last show of the evening with seats with a great view. The highlight of the production shows for me has been the featured all male number - love their voices!

Plenty of announcements from the @Captain today. He usually does a daily midday briefing to tell us about the journey's progress- wind condition (32 knots), swell height (4 metres today), speed (16 knots), water depth (1700 metres) amd distance to go in our journey.

Got to hear from him a couple of extra times however, because we were experiencing "technical difficulties" - there was a problem with one of the engines (um, are you serious?) and so the ship came to an almost dead stop - we could hear the swell slapping against the side of the ship. Certainly didn't last long - whatever the technical difficulty was - it was fixed and we were under way again.

Later in the day the @Captain was back on to "remind" us of the rougher conditions, giving lots of advice on how to navigate the hallways and stairways safely and even how to step in an out of your bathroom! All the outside decks were closed (except for the workers) and even though it was wobbly in the hallways, no food or drinks were spilled at any of our meals and we certainly weren't queasy enough to miss any meals!

On a day of a few #fails - have to comme t on how COLD it is on board. We can control the temperature in our stateroom but the public areas are positively fridge like. Been a big topic of conversation today.

Worth a note: @Mac is wearing his sea bands now and continues to diligently track our progress. At various stages today he was majority concerned because, after checking his three online sources, it appeared we were tracking west!

Don't mind a nightcap back in the room ... didn't quite last the day ... had a small #Baileys

Weather: 7 degrees and windy

Steps:  5 238
