Cruising the Inside Passage - off the coast of Canada
Highlights

No way. That couldn’t be. But it was! At 2.20 am, the @Captain’s voice entered the room. "Good morning and sorry to disturb you. But the Northern Lights are slightly visible on the port side. Thank you."
I bounced out of bed. Wrapped myself in the white dressing gown (@Allan had replaced them with clean ones today and they were the short version), spiralled a blanket around my legs and put on @Mac’s deck shoes. Yep. It was freezing on the balcony and we were on the starboard side. I couldn’t see a thing other than the lights of a nearby cruise ship.

@Mac didn’t even register the message - to be fair he had only recently gone to bed. I could have gone up to Deck 16 and met with the group at the stern of the ship on the outer deck but opted to snuggle back down in bed because the @Captain had used the descriptor "faintly."
Big mistake, everyone we met on the ship was on an aurora high! They were so excited. Apparently it was a beautiful show of greens that was easily detected through the photo lens of the phone. Good luck to them — and we enjoyed their happiness and their pics.
Mind you, despite missing the lights, we were celebrating because it was the "Canadian" 16th - another birthday for @Mac. We started with pancakes and champagne and lots of birthday wishes in #Concertos. Of course, @Mindy was onto it in her time zone and the big screen delivered at every swipe.

And @Mac must have loved his socks because we wore them AGAIN and ate the rest of the chocolate. Better than diamonds!
Rolled into our regular rhythm - coffee, some entertainment and a lecture or two. Skipped lunch to save room for dinner and got outside in the sunshine when it appeared.

Afternnon birthday pics taken care of, we took in some live music at #Crooners and extended it to 2 hours of cocktails to celebrate @Mac’s birthday.

Followed this with the big event which was our special birthday dinner at @Crown Grill — the specialty steakhouse on board. Loved every course and @Mac was in carnivore heaven because they don’t put any of that vegetable stuff on your plate - it’s just the meat! Sides are selected and optional.

The wait staff congregated at the table for dessert and delivered a cake — complete with a flickering candle — and do their rendition of the Birthday song accompanied by fireworks sound effects. Everyone in the restaurant noisily joins in to mark the occasion.

A perfect celebration of his day AND the big screen signage continued to mark the day right up to our last hallway walk home.

Weather: 10 degrees - and the @Captain announced the water temperature was also 10
